"Auggh!"

The cries were simultaneous; the occupants of two neighboring beds in the Gryffindor boys' dormitory jolted upright, screaming, just after midnight.

Harry looked over at Ron. "You had a nightmare, too?"

Ron nodded and shuddered. "Horrible."

"Mine, too," said Harry. "I dreamed that all of us -- you, me, Hermione, even Dumbledore and Snape -- were just characters in a book. Everything that happened to us, happened because the author wrote it that way. And hundreds of thousands of eyes watched us do it, every bit."

Ron laughed despite himself. "Is that all? I dreamed I was shagging the Giant Squid."

Whoa! I laughed out loud at that last line. Very clever built up. The simultaneous wake up made me think at first they had the same nightmare. Then, what Harry said seemed unusual enough to lead to the clue of the story. I wasn't expecting the Squid anymore by then... Which is, of course, what makes it so hilarious. That, and the fact that I can just imagine the expression of horror on Ron's face. *laughs some more*
